Pacquiao considering all possibilities in politics, retirement

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 27) — Sen. Manny Pacquiao is leaving the door open for all possibilities in 2022, from a possible presidential bid to retirement from politics.

“I am going to make a final announcement if I am going to push through to run as president or not,” Pacquiao told CNN Philippines’ The Source on Friday.

[Translation: I am considering many things, first of all my family and the ones who can give me advice, but in my heart, the willingness and the love for the people are there.]

Pacquiao also bared that he came up with a 22-point agenda, including goals for economic growth, sustainable livelihood, and ending corruption in the country.

[Translation: The number one goal is to achieve my dream to see the thieves in government in jail because they are the cancer, they are making the country suffer.]

[Translation: It is easy to announce what post to run for. That’s easy that is why I am considering what position to run for, whether I will continue being a politician or not anymore, there’s that possibility. There is an option to quit or push through with my presidential bid, go back to the Senate, or retire from politics.]

Pacquiao’s de facto spokesperson, Monico Puentevella, previously told The Source that “it might be a go” for the senator’s presidential bid. Puentevella also said an official announcement would be made within a month after the talks with potential allies from the opposition or the administration.

Pacquiao recently had a falling out with President Rodrigo Duterte after the senator accused the administration of corruption.

The boxer-turned-politician said he supports the audit findings of the Commission on Audit and is even willing to show further evidence to support his own allegations.

Pacquiao’s colleague, Sen. Bong Go, was endorsed as the standard-bearer of the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and supported by Duterte.

The President’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, is also being floated as a presidential candidate. None of them, however, have publicly declared their political plans for 2022 so far.
