6 policemen in Caloocan relieved, disarmed for robbery

SIX policemen from Caloocan City were relieved from their posts and disarmed for their alleged involvement in a robbery in March.

Philippine National Police Chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos, also ordered the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to investigate the incident on March 27, 2022.

“The involved personnel were immediately relieved so a fair investigation can proceed without any undue influence. They are now under restrictive custody, and disarmed of their service firearms,” Carlos said.

Carlos identified the six as PCpl Noel Espejo Sison, 33; PCpl Rommel Toribio, 29; PCpl Ryan Sammy Gomez Mateo, 32; PCpl Jake Barcenilla Rosima, 35; PCpl Mark Christian Abarca Cabanilla, 31; and PCpl Daryl Calija Sablay, 29, all members of the Drug Enforcement Unit of Caloocan City Police Station.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim, Eddie Acaso Yuson, 39, was walking on his way to Barangay 117 to buy food for his family when he was approached by one of the suspects who introduced himself as a police officer.

CCTV footage showed that Yuson was frisked and searched for his personal belongings. After a few minutes, a white pick-up truck with five other suspects onboard appeared.

The victim alleged that the policemen took his cash amounting to P14,000.

The CCTV footage was later uploaded in social media on March 30 and immediately became viral.
