San Beda coach raises ‘hits’ on Jacob Cortez to refs

YURI Escueta, head coach of San Beda, is adopting a straightforward approach as he plots the Red Lions’ survival in the NCAA Season 99 Finals.

Following their 68-63 loss to the Mapua Cardinals in the series opener, Escueta’s mantra is clear: “Ishoo-shoot namin yung bola.”

While this might seem like a simplified perspective, Escueta’s emphasis on shooting is warranted, given that their usually reliable outside shooting faltered in the first game. The Red Lions, known for their excellent perimeter shooting throughout the season, encountered a dry spell, managing only five successful attempts out of 32 from beyond the arc and a meager 32.9 percent overall shooting.
