NBA DFS: Joel Embiid and best FanDuel, DraftKings daily Fantasy basketball picks for April 18, 2022
Steph Curry made his return in Game 1 of the 2022 NBA Playoffs, but the headline from the Warriors‘ win over Denver was the play of Jordan Poole. In his first postseason game, Poole dropped 30 points and made five 3Ps, as he outscored both Curry and reigning MVP Nikola Jokic. Poole made a huge leap in his third NBA season and averaged 25.9 PPG over the last 15 games of the regular season. But if Curry returns to the starting lineup, is Poole still worthy of slotting into your NBA DFS lineups?
Those 25.9 points per game all came in starts, many of which Curry was sidelined. Curry came off the bench in Game 1 but that won’t be a strategy Steve Kerr uses going forward, so how will that affect Poole’s production? Should you utilize a wait-and-see approach for Poole in tonight’s Game 2, or should he still factor into your NBA DFS strategy? Before you lock in your NBA DFS picks for Monday’s playoff action, be sure to check out the NBA DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.

On Sunday, McClure listed Celtics guard Marcus Smart in his top NBA DFS lineup pool on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Smart finished 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. His performance returned 42.25 points on DraftKings and 40.4 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Monday, April 18, NBA DFS slate and locked in his top daily Fantasy basketball picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.
Top NBA DFS picks for Monday, April 18
For Monday, one of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks is 76ers center Joel Embiid, who is listed at $10,700 on DraftKings and $11,000 on FanDuel. Embiid didn’t have to do much in Game 1 with Tyrese Maxey going off, but he still posted a double-double with 19 points and 15 boards to go along with four assists. He’s now had a double-double in each of his last seven games against the Raptors.
The last time Embiid scored under 20 points was when he also had 19 in a mid-February game versus Boston. He then bounced back the next game in a huge way with 42 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. With the various Raptors injuries, the team may be forced to shuffle its rotation, thus putting inexperienced players on Embiid. The NBA’s scoring champion should take advantage of these matchups and provide solid production to NBA DFS lineups.
Another part of McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet ($7,500 on DraftKings and $7,600 on FanDuel). Toronto is expected to be shorthanded for Monday’s Game 2 versus the 76ers as both Gary Trent Jr. (illness) and Scottie Barnes (ankle) are doubtful. That will force the team to be even more reliant on VanVleet who ranks second on the team in points (20.3) and first in assists (6.7).
VanVleet dealt with foul trouble in Game 1, even fouling out, but still put up 18 points, six assists and two blocks. He played just one of the four games vs. Philly during the regular season and bested his season averages with 32 points, seven assists and six rebounds in that contest. VanVleet, who made his first All-Star Game this season, is a proven postseason performer and has averaged a shade under 20 PPG over his last 13 playoff games. Nick Nurse will ride his best players with an undermanned unit tonight, so VanVleet is in a great position to fill up the stat sheet.
