Pacquiao links Marcos, Moreno to corruption issues

Sen. Manny Pacquiao said Filipinos should not vote for fellow presidential hopefuls Isko Moreno and Bongbong Marcos because of corruption issues.

Pacquiao made the statement during an interview with talk show host Boy Abunda which aired on Friday.

May (He has) corruption issue,” Pacquiao said of Moreno.

As for Marcos, Pacquiao also said: “May bahid ng korapsyon.

[Translation: He is hounded by corruption issues. Corruption in our country is the reason many of us are poor.]

The son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos has been involved in several cases over his family’s alleged ill-gotten wealth. He was also implicated in the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam.

Moreno, meanwhile, was sued for plunder in 2014 when he was Manila vice mayor for allegedly pocketing over ₱70 million in real property taxes.

Pacquiao reiterated his promise to prioritize eradicating corruption in government if he wins the elections in May.
