PBA: Chris Banchero suits up for Meralco
Meralco coach Norman Black welcomed the 33-year-old point guard with open arms.
“We’re happy to have Chris join us,” said Black. “His experience and talent are evident, now the next step is to have him adjusted as quickly as possible. We look forward to having Chris join our next practice.”

Meralco saw the opportunity to get Banchero when he decided to become an unrestricted free agent. He joins the team’s mainstays Chris Newsome, Anjo Caram, and Aaron Black.
Prior to his transfer to Meralco, Banchero spent a year with the Super LPG after a surprise trade by Magnolia involving Calvin Abueva.
Meralco believes Banchero fits well into the team’s culture.

Handa na ang mga tourist spot sa Pilipinas sa pagdating ng mga lokal at dayuhang turista ngayong lumuwag na ulit ang mga patakaran sa pagbiyahe.
Kasama sa mga nagpahayag ng kahandaan ang mga sikat na tourist destination na Cebu at Boracay, na nag-anunsiyong hindi na nila nire-require ang RT-PCR test para sa mga turistang fully vaccinated laban sa COVID-19.
Ang kailangan na lang umano ay advanced booking at itinerary ng mga pupuntahang lugar.
“We had that series of refresher course ng mga tourism frontliners natin as well as ‘yong service providers,” sabi ni Felix delos Santos, Boracay chief tourism officer, ukol sa mga paghahanda sa isla.
“Very much ready po kasi even before naka-ready na po kami for international [tourists]. Supposedly last year pa ready na kami around the last quarter,” sabi naman ni Cebu provincial tourism officer Marti Ybañez.
Simula Pebrero 10, muling magbubukas ang Pilipinas sa mga dayuhang fully vaccinated mula sa mga non-visa country.
Handa na rin ang Bureau of Immigration (BI) sa pagdagsa ng mga dayuhang turista kahit marami sa ahensiya ang nagpositibo sa COVID-19 nitong mga nakalipas na linggo.
“Karamihan naman sa kanila have recovered already. Nasa mahigit 400 po ‘yong nakabalik na sa kanilang stations and are able to report already for their duties, so sa tingin po natin ay kakayanin po natin ang pagdating ng mga turista,” ani BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval.
Pero nagbabala ang World Health Organization (WHO) sa iba’t ibang bansa na huwag basta na lang gayahin ang pagluluwag ng ibang bansa para lang mabuhay ang ekonomiya.
“Every country has to find its feet, know where it is, know where it wants to go and chart its path. You can look to the experience of others, you can look at what other countries are doing but please don’t just follow blindly what every other country is doing,” ani WHO emergencies director Mike Ryan.
Nagpaala rin ang WHO na marami pang bansa ang hindi nagpi-peak ang kaso ng COVID-19 kaya maaari pa ring kumalat at makapaminsala ang sakit, lalo na sa vulnerable sector.
“We are urging caution because many countries have not gone through the peak of omicron yet, many countries have low levels of vaccination coverage with vulnerable individuals within their populations,” sabi ni WHO Technical Lead for COVID Maria van Kerkhove.
Bukod sa Pilipinas, unti-unti na ring nagbubukas sa biyahe at pagtanggap ng bakunadong dayuhang bisita ang maraming bansa.
